Project Overview

  • Location of Project: Missouri

  • Type of Project: Road

  • Timeline: 2024-2025

Project Details

The intersection of Route 87 and Moniteau County Route C sees heavy traffic: 1,176 vehicles daily on Route 87 north, 1,001 south, 1,895 on Route C west, and 1,694 east. Historically, this intersection averages 12 crashes every five years, including fatal and serious injury incidents. In the past five years alone, there was a crash with two fatalities, a serious injury crash, and 12 minor or no injury crashes.

MoDOT has tried various safety measures including warning signs, interactive flashers, and rumble strips, but these have not effectively reduced severe crashes.

To address this, MoDOT is designing a new intersection, with a roundabout being the recommended option. The goal is to decrease both the number and severity of crashes. The improvements are anticipated to start in 2025.
