Project Overview
To enhance capacity on I-44 in Greene County between Kansas Expressway and U.S. Route 65:
– Widen I-44 to 6 lanes between Kansas Expressway and U.S. Route 65.
– Construct a flyover ramp from southbound Kansas Expressway to eastbound I-44.
– Improve the Norton Road interchange and add an underpass.
– Replace Melville Road bridge over I-44 (with pedestrian access).
– Replace Broadway Avenue, Grant Avenue, and National Avenue bridges over I-44.
– Rehabilitate the Route EE bridge over I-44.
– Build a pedestrian underpass and trail improvements east of Grant Avenue.
– Resurface I-44 between Chestnut Expressway and Route 125.
– Install a sound wall south of I-44 from National Avenue bridge westward (approx. 2,550 feet).
Traffic Impacts
– Lane closures on I-44, Norton Road, Kansas Expressway, and Route EE bridge.
– Broadway Avenue, Grant Avenue, and National Avenue may be closed up to 140 days.
– Narrowed lanes and traffic shifts on I-44.
– I-44 exit ramp closures.
– Melville Road bridge closed up to 140 days; Route EE bridge closed up to 90 days.
– Expect delays during high traffic volumes.
