Project Details
The Hayes-West Freemont Project consists of an approximately 30-mile long double circuit 138 kV transmission line from the line will run from the new Hayes Substation in Erie County to the existing West Fremont Substation in Sandusky County. The new line will be built primarily on single wood poles with two guyed wood poles (steel poles may be installed at some locations) on 60-foot wide right-of-way access. The preliminary estimate for this part of the project is $19 million.
The Ohio Power Siting Board certificated this project on August 25, 2014.

Opposition To Hayes-West Fremont Transmission Line
Property owners from Sandusky and Erie counties met last week at a public hearing to voice their objections to a proposed transmission line by FirstEnergy. If approved, the power line could run directly through some owners’ land, causing landowners to be concerned over not only damage to their land, but environmental hazards attributed to the electromagnetic fields from the poles.
As a result, these landowners proposed alternative routes which would move the power lines to run along property lines instead of through them, also avoiding running the line directly through Peninsular farms, which the owners argued would greatly disrupt the flow of nationally-recognized migrating birds. At the conclusion of the hearing, the administrative judge reported the next step would be an additional hearing, scheduled for June, followed by a vote from the Ohio Power Siting Board which is expected no earlier than August.
