The Hatch-Wadley 500 kilovolts (kV) project spanning roughly 45 to 75 miles across Southeast/East Georgia. The project originates at Plant Hatch nuclear plant, running through Toombs, Emanuel (Swainsboro area), and Jefferson Counties to the Wadley substation. Grid reinforcement to accommodate massive cumulative energy loads, including expanding data center footprints.
Georgia Power began notifying property owners regarding potential land easements and access needs. A public informational open house was held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, to discuss preliminary routing, eminent domain parameters, and environmental review. Local landowners and regional groups have raised questions regarding transparency, routing specifics, and the impact of eminent domain on family farms and forested tracts
