Twenty years ago a scheme was hatched to connect Evansville to Bloomington to Indianapolis. The result of this vision was the I-69 corridor. The I-69 corridor will ultimately extend from Mexico to Canada making it one of the primary north south arteries in the entire United States. I-69 is funded by a mixture of federal and state monies. The state contribution came mostly from lease of the Indiana Toll road. Most of these funds have been utilized for the construction of previous sections. Section Five will be financed using a public private partnership (p3). A P3 is a contractual arrangment between the State of Indiana and a private entity that creates financial support for the road project.
