Governor Pat Quinn’s point man on the proposed South Suburban Airport said earlier this month that the State of Illinois will seek bids on the airport by the end of 2013.

More importantly, however, was the in addition to a bill passed by the Illinois General Assembly in early June, $71 million in land acquisition was approved for the remaining land necessary for the airport.

Sean O’Shea, deputy chief of staff to the governor, said that purchase would include Bult Field, a privately owned airport near the south suburban site. IDOT will soon begin meeting with suburban mayors and Will County officials to explain in detail the legislation that was passed and the state’s plans.
