NEIU Expansion Invokes Eminent Domain

As a state-owned university, Northeastern Illinois University has plans to acquire several properties through the power of eminent domain. With these properties, the University plans to build additional on-campus housing to attempt to entice more student applications in the future.

But some nearby homeowners fear the new proposed development will change the entire character of the surrounding neighborhood in a negative way. Others, who are having their land taken, feel their family legacies are being stripped, with family owned buildings being taken that date back to the 1950’s.
