A Boone County Circuit Judge heard testimony Monday morning by city Representatives who wish to acquire 5 acres of land north of Columbia Regional Airport for the extension of the airport’s main runway.
The City’s property acquisition manager, Wendy Lister, testified that they offered compensation to the landowner, Robert White, who told news reporters the $8000/acre offer was not enough given the potential for commercial or industrial use of his land.
In addition to White’s land, the city will also seek to buy about 58 more acres of land north of the airport. In February, the City Council approved a budget of $639,000 to acquire this land, noting that the city is eligible to have 90 percent of that cost covered by the Federal Aviation Administration.
