“We’re going to make this happen,” the Governor Pat Quinn said in reference to the South Suburban Airport.
That was at during a telephone conversation with the Southtown Star earlier this month. Quinn’s comment comes on the heels of the Illinois legislature’s approval of IDOT’s governance over the airport and over $70 million in funds dedicated to land acquisition for the project in 2014.
Quinn said he made it clear months ago to warring political leaders in South Cook and Will counties that he was going to put IDOT in control of the airport’s future.
As of this year, the airport only has a little over half of the necessary land acreage for the airport’s planned footprint. Given Quinn’s commentary and the Illinois General Assembly’s actions, it would appear the remainder land acquisition will move rapidly in the coming year.
