A late May resolution from the Illinois House has cleared the way for the proposed Elgin O’Hare Western Access/Bypass Project.
“If we waited for the state, western access would never happen, and the Elgin O’Hare Expressway would forever continue to never go to either Elgin or O’Hare,” Sen. Tom Cullerton (D-Villa Park) said in a prepared statement.
The long-awaited, much discussed project will reconcile the ill-named Elgin O’Hare Expressway, which as it stands does not extend to O’Hare International Airport in northwest Chicago. The project includes extending the Expressway to O’Hare–providing western access to the airport–and proviing a bypass to the airport at I=294 and I-90. There is an expected $96 million dedicated to the project in 2013 alone.
