EDITORIAL: Lowell Landowner Begs for Consideration of Unexpected Consequences of Illiana

Originally published by the Northwest Indiana Times.

Pushing through the Illiana toll road has small stakeholders feeling we’re being shoved! Lake County taxpaying landowners see higher costs caused by a “road wall separation,” closing transportation on north to south roads by the proposed toll road.

Those directly affected are discovering this is becoming a massive boondoggle hiding unintended consequences! The dividing of farms, police, fire protection, school bus routes and our master plan are the expensive forced results!

Consider the thirst for revenue like gambling and the Peotone airport proposals by Illinois. What’s the effect on our airport, farms, lost land tax revenue and gambling?

Why not study the total cost impact of unintended consequences to our tax base, existing jobs and living standards throughout the county?
