The IL 53/120 Road Project, perennially on the backburner of North Chicago’s news cycle, gained some new life this month with the approval of funding for a Corridor Land Use and Transportation Plan. The Plan will be developed in partnership with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP), Lake County, and communities along the corridor to integrate land use, transportation, economic development, and open space.

The Council recommended specific design elements, as well as other recommendations, including development of a coordinated corridor plan. If the BRAC route was picked and designated for construction, it would require hundreds of millions in land acquisition.
