SPRINGFIELD – Clean Line Energy Partners officials say several Illinois counties and landowners could receive more than $74 million from the construction and maintenance of the Grain Belt Express.
The Grain Belt Express is a proposed project that would run a transmission line from Kansas to a power grid in Indiana, crossing through several Illinois counties along the way. Clean Line officials say the transmission line would “reduce pollutants by millions of tons” while creating hundreds of permanent jobs and thousands of temporary ones.
Officials also say that over the first 20 years of the proposed project, landowners affected by the construction would receive more than $41 million in direct payments, and counties in the affected areas would receive payments of approximately $33 million. Additionally, Clean Line would also be required to pay counties a one-time payment of $20,000 per mile of the line.
