A $9 million project to rebuild, widen and improve Indianapolis Boulevard in Whiting and Hammond gained signifcant traction in mid-February as officials signed off on preliminary engineering for the project.
Expected to begin construction in 2014, the proposed project will span Indianapolis Blvd. between Calumet and Schrage Avenues
- “The state was just going to overlay the street, and we told them, ‘Hey, we got to do more than that. This is in bad shape,'” City Engineer Dostatni told HammondCommunity.net. “So the state partnered with us, and I was really happy we were able to work this out.”
- Engineering for the project will start immediately, and Sever Walker Padgitt expects land acquisition to begin later this year.
