The Ohio Department of Transportation recently issued a Request for Qualifications to potential contractors for parts of the Portsmouth Bypass project. Still, construction is likely not happening any time soon. ODOT is looking for a contractor to help design, build, finance, operate and maintain the eventual Portsmouth Bypass. The project will involve approximately 16 miles of new highway around Portsmouth, Ohio.
ODOT intends to enter into a public private agreement with the chosen contractor. This likely means that the contractor will provide a great deal of the money necessary to finance design and construction, and ODOT will make payments to the contractor under the agreement for a period after the bypass has been built. As state above, this does not mean that construction is going to begin any time soon, but it is a positive step towards completing the project at some point in the future.
