A new report sheds light on the complexities of a major East Side transportation project – compounded by government mistrust, accusations of hidden agendas and fundamental disagreements over the merits of the project.
What the report doesn’t do, however, is provide a clear solution on whether to stop or move forward with the most controversial part of the multiphase Eastern Corridor project – expanding Ohio 32 through Newtown and Mariemont.
Many had hoped the mediator’s report would lead to a decision on the project by the end of the year, but Ohio Department of Transportation officials say they need more time to review the numerous concerns raised in the study.
The state plans to finish its review of Massachusetts-based Consensus Building Institute’s report by early February, ODOT spokesman Brian Cunningham said. A final decision on whether to expand the highway or completely kill the project is expected soon after that.
