State Route 20 (SR 20) in eastern Cherokee County is a major east west route, functionally classified as a rural minor arterial, with high traffic volumes and a high percentage of trucks. The proposed project would widen the existing two-lane section of SR 20 to a four-lane section (four 12-foot lanes) separated by a 20-foot raised median, including curb and gutter, and 5-foot sidewalks. The project would begin 0.34 mile east of I-575 at approximately MP 13.09 and end 0.15 mile east of Scott Road at approximately MP 14.26, for a total project length of approximately 1.17 miles. Intersection improvements would occur at Old Doss Drive, Brooke Park Drive, Key Drive, Big Oak Drive, Weaver Circle and Scott Road. The project is proposed to improve efficiency and safety by addressing traffic congestion, above average crash rates, and substandard intersections along this section of SR 20
