IDOT will commission a study to connect I-55 in Cape Girardeau, Mo., and I-24 in Paducah, Ky.
The study, part of a much larger Interstate 66 passageway project, will help determine what route would best be served for a potential connector between the two cities. The $4.5 million study is projected to last three years.
If completed, an interstate in this corridor would cover a wide swath of southern Illinois and undoubtedly demand sizeable land acquisition.
