Panel to study potential Route 53 cost savings

 

The costs of innovations associated with the proposed extension of Route 53 into North Lake County is being examined for savings, however environmental protection will continue to be a top concern.  The preliminary costs of innovations that include roadway design, environmental protection measures and a special fund for long term monitoring are projected at $450 million to $600 million.  Now the committee is going to look for savings and they know tolls alone will not cover the costs.  A final report is scheduled for discussion on July 29 that will address potential cost refinements, local funding options and other financing details.
