Last week Energy Transfer Partners sent letters to landowners that it intends to build a new interstate pipeline which will take the place of the Enbridge Line, which ruptured in 2010 and spilled over a million gallons of oil into the Kalamazoo River. The new line will carry natural gas from parts of Ohio, through Michigan, and on to Canada.
First though, the project must be approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), which would ultimately permit the eminent domain authority to take the necessary land. However, the company remains so confident that it will be approved that it announced it has already signed long-term agreements with shippers and set a date of summer 2017 for the completion of the project.
